Legislative changes in consumer protection

New EU legislation and amendments to the Civil Code and the Consumer Protection Act introduce significant changes in the areas of consumer protection and e-commerce. The changes will affect online shops, mobile apps and physical stores.

The introduction of a mandatory withdrawal button in accordance with the new Section 1830a of the Civil Code has already been approved, with effect from 1 January 2027. Other forthcoming changes relate to pre-contractual information, harmonised notices and labels concerning guarantees, a 12-month extension of liability for defects following repairs, stricter rules on marketing claims and reviews and other changes.

In practice, businesses will need to adapt their websites, checkout processes, complaints procedures, terms and conditions and internal processes, and, where necessary, obtain the required data from manufacturers and suppliers.
